Colombian carrier confirms two flights in MST’s weekly schedule as the airport’s cargo volumes hit 25% increase in cargo volumes in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year

Maastricht, the Netherlands, Thursday 2nd October 2025: Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) has added two new cargo flights to its weekly schedule following an agreement with Colombian airline, Avianca Cargo.

Starting October 2025, the South American airline will operate flights to and from the Dutch airport with an Airbus A330, which has a maximum payload capacity of 61 tons.

The additional routes will contribute to the upward trend in air cargo volumes that the airport has witnessed this year.

In July, MST announced a 15 per cent increase in cargo volumes in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year,  which increased to 25% by August.

Growth has been bolstered by the expansion of operations by Turkish Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo, as well as the arrival of My Freighter and Ethiopian Cargo.

‘We are proud that, after My Freighter, Avianca Cargo has now also chosen Maastricht Aachen Airport,’ said Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport.

‘With every new route, we increase the international connectivity of our airport. Our team is ready to introduce Avianca to the excellent and unbeatable handling for which MST is known.’

Connecting Quito, Miami, Maastricht, and Zaragoza, Avianca will import flowers from South America to Europe and export e-commerce products from Europe, including clothing for a famous high street fashion chain.

‘At Avianca Cargo, we are excited to continue expanding our internationalisation strategy, strengthening our presence in new markets and optimising our global network that currently connects over 350 destinations,’ said Diogo Elias, CEO Avianca Cargo.

‘In oktober 2025, we start transporting cargo from Latin America to Maastricht, a key connection point, and we look forward to continuing to grow at this strategic hub.’
